Applying for Veterans’ Pension and Aid and Attendance Benefit

Many low income Elderly Veterans and their families enjoy the extra monetary assistance received from the Veteran Administration, however, it can be difficult figuring out whether you are eligible for Veterans’ Pension or the Aid & Attendance benefit and getting everything organized to submit a solid application. At A-1 Home Care, we can provide consulting services to help you figure out how much money you may be eligible for and whether you can qualify for the Aid and Attendance benefit as well.

Veterans’ Pension and Aid & Attendance Requirements:

  • At least 90 days of active duty service with one day during a wartime period: World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War

  • Must be at least 65 years old, permanently disabled, receiving Social Security Disability Insurance, or Supplemental Security Income

  • Your countable income must be lower than the Maximum Annual Pension Rate set by congress. Income less recurring medical expenses is subtracted from the MAPR to determine how much money you are eligible for.

  • For the A& A benefit, you must require the assistance of another person for essential functions of daily living such as dressing, feeding, bathing, toileting, or staying safe at home. The VA requires that you submit a report to the VA regional office that includes copies of documents that serve as “proof” that you require living assistance. A physician’s report detailing your living situation and need for care should be submitted.

Caregivers Keep us Seniors Safe and Happy this Fall Season

It’s starting to get cold now that we’ve reached November. If the home is not properly insulated, then not only does heat escape, but it also drives the heating costs up to stay warm..
